On April 28, 2023, Paper Bag Records will release Zoon’s Bekka Ma’iingan, the band’s second full-length album. Since their widely praised debut Bleached Wavves in 2020, Zoon’s evolution has gained momentum, leading to the highly anticipated sophomore album from Daniel Monkman. Bekka Ma’iigan, which translates from Ojibway to ‘slow down’ and ‘wolf,’ is a breathtaking sonic journey that will amaze and transport listeners. The album features string arrangements by Owen Pallett, as well as contributions from Michael Peter Olsen, Andrew McLeod (Sunnsetter), special guest Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), and mixed by Grammy-winning producer Mark Lawson.

Zoon’s commitment to their Indigenous experience and activism is evident in every aspect of their work. They explore complex issues such as the fear of losing their Ojibway language and acknowledging their ‘2-Spirit’ identity.
By openly sharing this side of themselves, they hope to support others who may not yet feel safe enough to be themselves.
